MOVIE TALK: “Sucker Punch” πŸŽ¬

Sorry guys. I was not able to blog because my internet was down and I do not have a strong enough data connection to write from my phone. Thankfully my internet is back working. On a better note, I am here now and I would like to talk to you today about movies.

As you guys know, I have expressed interest in creative writing but I also see myself writing a script and even producing a television show and movies. That being said, I like to discuss movies with any present party especially at the end of a screening to talk about the storyline and just to get their overall opinion on it. I extend the invitation to you guys as well, so comment your response below.

The movie I want to discuss today is called “Sucker Punch.” This movie came out back in 2011. I remember when I first watched it, I was still in highschool. The movie was SO confusing and it’s interesting what you pick up on the second time you watch a movie. You may see or realize something different that is happening in the movie that you had not noticed before.

I saw the extended cut version this time. I know that there were moments for me when I watched this movie again that had me thinking to myself that I didn’t understand how I missed a scene and the dialogue that happened because it ended up explaining the movie a little more. This movie has a lot of hints and multiple themes and lessons. I consider, “Sucker Punch” to be a work of art. There is a mixture of genres that make this story very unique so let’s dive right in.

πŸ“ŒOpinion on the movie as a whole?

I thought this movie had a lot of cool elements. I love a good movie with action-adventure where there is a hero and a villain.

πŸ“ŒWas Babydoll the hero or the villain?

I think that she was a hero to the other patients but a villain in the eyes of the public because towards the end of the movie, the police are talking about the damage that she caused.

πŸ“ŒDid anyone really escape that madhouse?

That’s a really good question because at first I thought that maybe Sweet Pea did escape but the more I pondered what happened at the end of the movie, I began to think that the whole story we saw only existed in Baby Doll’s mind and none of it happened in real life. Although they did say Babydoll helped a “patient” escape so maybe it was Sweet Pea that was able to leave. Babydoll may have been the only one to fight anyone which brings up the question of whether not she was mentally stable when she attacked these people in the asylum.

πŸ“Œ Who was the actual protagonist in the story?

I originally thought it would be Babydoll but it depends on who’s story it is. Sweet Pea ends up narrating the story until the end so it appears to be her story which makes her the main character or protagonist.

πŸ“ŒWhich world that we were introduced was real and what actually happened in that world?

I think that the asylum was real and the other world was one of fantasy. I think Babydoll invented the second world as a way to cope with what was going on around her and the loss of her sister.

πŸ“Œ Was the movie just one huge metaphor?

It could be. There certainly seemed to be a message of hope and to fight for what you want and I thought that was pretty cool for them to incorporate into the film.

πŸ“Œ Who killed Babydoll’s sister?

I still am not sure if it Babydoll or if it was it her stepfather. At first it seemed like her stepfather tried to hurt Babydoll then her sister and Babydoll was just trying to defend herself and help her sister when she shot the gun. The next scene pans to her sister lying on the floor, dead and her stepfather is standing by the door.

πŸ“Œ Did Babydoll actually get the lobotomy?

Yes, I think she really did.

πŸ“Œ Was the whole story just Babydoll’s imagination and did she create this version as a way to escape her world after the lobotomy?

Similiar to one of the questions above, I think that it was her imagination of a better world than the one she was experiencing.

πŸ“Œ Did you like/dislike the movie?

The movie was awesome. I think the best movies keep you guessing and talking about the story long after the movie is over. If someone writes a story that keeps people talking, they did their job right.

πŸ“Œ Does the film follow a certain story arc or structure?

It is not a linear structure but it does follow the beginning of an arc with a main character going on a journey and experiencing tests and trials along the way.

If you guys haven’t seen “Sucker Punch”, check it out and let me know what you thought about the film.Β Feel free to comment down below, inbox me on my social accounts, or Snap me your response to today’s blog. I want to hear from you guys. Thanks.
