It’s Tuesday and I’m so excited to share with you my journey to the film industry. I am in the very beginning stages. I still need my headshots, business cards, and to start building my resume but I feel so refreshed and motivated after attending my first film networking mixer this past Sunday.
It can be so discouraging and downright scary to put yourself out there and try to attend an event where you don’t know anyone or what to expect. I almost let fear keep me from an amazing experience. I had my mind set to go until the day of and I almost talked myself out of it.
I get to the event and everyone is kind of huddled around the host who is a pretty big film buff himself so they were in this close knit circle and I wasn’t sure how to get in. I sat down trying to think of a strategy when the bartender saw me and invited me to the front for a drink.
The bartender asked if I was there for the mixer and what was I looking for in the film industry. I told him that I am an aspiring actress and he told me to make sure to talk to the host at some point and that I just need to jump in and not look for an invitation to network with anyone. So I thanked him for drink, hopped off my bar stool and started networking with everyone.
There were film producers, photographers, radio host, writers, acting coaches, and actors. I made sure to talk to almost everyone in the room. I got a couple phone numbers and business cards and some really good advice on how to get started and find film jobs . I already started emailing around asking about film work. I have to tape an audition later so fingers-crossed I get the part.
I am going to give this dream everything that I’ve got and I will let you guys know when I finally make it on set and I will fill you in on all the details of set life and the acting process as a whole. I am just super excited and I know that good things are still coming I just have to be patient.
