So I went to go see Lisa Frankenstein in theaters when it first came out and it was so awesome! I loved every minute of it. It definitely had plenty of dark humor and I appreciated the fact that it was a women led film. The protagonist was female played by (Kathryn Newton) but also the writer (Diablo Cody) and director (Zelda Williams) of the film are both women. Diablo Cody was behind “Juno” and “Jennifer’s Body” so I knew this was going to be a good movie. Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda, helped create this project so I definitely wanted to see this movie because I grew up watching Robin Williams in many of his films. It was great so see a piece of his legacy being passed down.

Because of the dark satire of the film and it features revenge and murders there were a lot of people exiting the theater once they realized what was happening in the plot. Some people also couldn’t handle teenage sexuality although it was mostly implied and nothing actually shown on film. I was just fascinated by the story they created together. It was definitely a twisted love story.

I just rewatched it with my boyfriend. He watched it with me for the first time. I had been telling him about the movie since I first watched it. He said he enjoyed it but agreed it was a little sadistic. I felt like I related a lot to the main character so I was rooting for her.

With the movie being called “Lisa Frankenstein” they do play into the original story of Doctor Frankenstein being able to bring a creature to life that wasn’t quite human and Lisa is able to do just that. You see the crazy and wacky things that happen as a result of one decision that she makes and it changes the course of her entire life. She basically wishes to be with someone that is already dead and her wish becomes far too real before she realizes. Everyone knows that saying, ‘be careful what you wish for.’

Lisa was the high school underdog that didn’t really have friends. She went through a lot of trauma and she just wanted to fall in love and get her happy ending and in the most unlikely of places she find someone, a creature played by (Cole Sprouse) that truly loves her and is willing to protect her no matter what. As dark and crazy as it was it was a pretty dope movie. I honest would love a part 2. I’m not sure what they would do in the second movie but I think the ending kind of left it open that something could happen. Would he spend the movie putting her back together instead?

If you guys haven’t seen it definitely check it out. I think it’s the perfect time since we are in spooky season. We’ve pretty much been watch a lot of scary movies and shows; either catching up on something only one of us have seen or neither one of us has. If I find anything else that ends up being a good watch I will definitely recommend it.
Love always.

Nina.
