Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. It was the first year in almost a decade that I actually had a partner to share it with. We enjoyed ourselves. We went to the store and got a bottle of wine, picked out what we wanted for dinner, played some music, cooked our food, danced, and had a good ole time. I received the cutest long stem pink rose! Babe made the most incredible brownies last night. We binged watched this new show that I got him hooked on called “Insecure,” another hit by the infamous Issa Rae.

Sometimes the best moments with the people you love can’t be measured by anything more than choosing to exist simply in that moment; no distractions, looming thoughts or frustrations, just enjoying each other’s company. My partner and I have had one of the most challenging relationships that I have ever encountered honestly because in a lot of ways we are alike. We want the best for each other but sometimes that stands in the way of our own happiness. If you focus too hard on trying to fix something that wasn’t broken, it becomes a mess. We are both new to serious relationships due to us both not having romantic partners for a while. There are some growing pains involved. We are learning through each other to listen more and figure out how to truly show up for each other when it matters the most, something our inner child has desired from the very beginning. And damn, relationships sure are not easy. It’s all fun and games until its not but if you truly have a partner that at the end of that argument still wants to work through it, maybe it’s all worth it.

So to everyone out there, Happy Belated Valentine’s Day. To the single people, Happy Single Awareness Day. I wish you everyone a lifetime full of exciting adventures; falling in love with who they are and if they desire to share those precious moments with another soul it is with the right one that truly deserves the opportunity.
Xo,

Nina.
