LOVE. 💓

Love has always been part of the complexity of life. It can sometimes be hard to understand or define. There are different versions of love that we can all experience in our lives from puppy love to the fairytale-esque, true love. Just like love-at-first sight, I don’t know if true love really exists.

I have been with my boyfriend for almost a year now and I love him but I’m not sure where we fall in the spectrum. At first I thought that maybe it was love-at-first-sight because we we’re always somehow drawn to each other without any intention.

Now that we’ve been together for a while, it feels like a comfortable kind of love. We care about each other but it feels almost normalized and a routine of I love yous.

Growing up I always wanted an epic love story. Yeah I know, I know, movies and television aren’t real life but it was those dramatic kisses that always stole my heart away. It was the kiss shared between Ren and Ariel in “Footloose” that was so iconic. The whole scene looked like magic and that’s what I always thought love would feel like, magic.

Maybe we will get there some day. I know it can be hard to balance and maintain a healthy relationship when we are always so busy with responsibilities. Maybe it is just a phase all 20-something year-olds go through.

How do you know when you’re in love? How do you know that it’s true and how do you promise someone that you will always feel the same way about them as you do 50 years from now? I have no clue. Love to me is complicated. It can either bring out the best or the worst in people.

If I could give any advice on relationships and love it is that you should really try to learn who you are as a person and what you are looking for in a relationship and realize that you are bringing a new person into your life, that you are going to have to learn who they are, and be willing to do whatever it takes to never stop wanting to learn them.

It can be hard to add someone else into your life and try to get to know them when you don’t even know yourself. It can be hard to draw a line on what you will and will not accept or compromise on but you have a good thing when two individuals can learn and grow together.

So guys, if you don’t have a special someone out there, know this, chase your dreams and do it all while you aren’t tied down and having to answer to another person. Find out who you are and celebrate your genius and awesomeness. I spent so much time just wanting a guy in my life that I didn’t appreciate the time I had to become a liberated and knowledgeable person. You should strive to do the same.
